Built to your drawing, not ours

Send us the council drawing or the spec from the tender and we build to it: pyramid, dome, peak, chamfer or splay tops, single or double collars, chain, pipe or cable holes, impact holes, red or white delineators, chamfered or pencil-rounded edges, and painting if you want it.

Every bollard is machined in our own workshop in Kilsyth, in Melbourne's east, the way we have done it since 1996. Repeat orders match the first one, because the same people cut them on the same machines.

Sizes run from 100 x 100 mm up to 300 x 300 mm, in lengths from 1.2 to 3.0 metres, sawn or dressed.

Need something that is not in the range? Most council bollards we make are a standard top with a particular hole pattern or delineator, and a drawing or a photo of an existing bollard is enough for us to match it.

Why councils specify White Cypress Pine

Painted timber bollards along a reserve

It lasts. White Cypress is rated Durability Class 1 above ground, over 40 years, and Class 2 in the ground. It is F7 structurally rated, so it takes knocks without splitting.

It is chemical-free. No CCA, no other treatment. Nothing leaches into a playground, a creek reserve or a dog park, and at end of life the timber can be mulched or burnt like any untreated wood.

It is ready the day it arrives. Cypress needs no weathering, so your crew can paint it in council colours straight away, or leave it to silver off naturally.

It is Australian. Native Australian White Cypress, machined in Victoria.

Fixing, removable and collapsible options

Councils we supply

Timber bollards from our Kilsyth workshop are in parks, reserves, car parks, trails and streetscapes across Victoria. Councils and public bodies we have supplied include:

We also supply the civil, landscape and fencing contractors who install for councils, and many of them hold a trade account with us.

How councils and contractors order

Price it yourself in 90 seconds. Our bollard calculator prices every size, top and extra, plus delivery to your depot or site, so a purchasing officer can attach a firm figure to a requisition without waiting for a quote.

Or send us the spec. Email the drawing, the quantity and the site to sales@barlings.com.au and you will have a written quote within one working day. Purchase orders and work orders are welcome, and account terms are available for councils and regular contractors.

Delivery. Our own truck delivers across Melbourne and regional Victoria, and local pick-up from Kilsyth is welcome. The current lead time is shown in the banner at the top of every page and we confirm your date when the order is placed.

Common questions from councils

Do you make bollards to council specification?

Yes. We build to any council or client drawing: pyramid, dome, peak, chamfer or splay tops, collars, chain, pipe or cable holes, impact holes and delineators. Send us the spec and we will quote it.

Can you match bollards already installed?

Usually, yes. A photo and the size of an existing bollard is enough for us to make more that match, so a replacement run looks like the original.

Are the bollards treated?

No. White Cypress is naturally durable, so there is no CCA or any other chemical treatment. That matters around playgrounds, waterways and anywhere the timber is handled.

Can you supply removable or collapsible bollards?

Yes. Galvanised in-ground sleeves make a bollard removable, and bolt-down collapsible bases suit service and emergency vehicle access.

Do you accept purchase orders and offer account terms?

Yes. Send a purchase order or work order with the spec and quantity. Account terms are available for councils and regular contractors.

What do timber bollards cost?

From $24.50 each including GST for a B6 chamfer-top 100 x 100 x 1200 mm cypress bollard. Larger sizes, extras and delivery are priced live in our calculator.

Why use White Cypress Pine?

Naturally Termite Resistant: Contains natural oils that resist white Termites.
Class 2 In-Ground & class 1 above-ground Durability: Life expectancies of 15–25 years in-ground and 40+ years above ground.
Low Shrinkage Rate: A very low 2.6% shrinkage rate means minimal warping.
F7 Structural Rated: A moderately hard softwood (Janka rating ~6.4 kN)
Sustainably Sourced: Forest-certified and affordable Australian timber.

Are You Getting What You Paid For?

Not all cypress is the same — and it's worth knowing the difference before it goes in the ground.
Cypress Macrocarpa
✘ Not native to Australia — originally from California, commonly grown here as farm windbreaks rather than purpose-grown for structural use
✘ Class 3 durability: rated for 5–15 years
✘ Higher rot risk once buried
✘ Best suited to above-ground use
✘ Needs time to weather before painting
Australian White Cypress
✔ Native Australian species, naturally suited to our conditions
✔ Sustainably harvested from managed Australian forests
✔ Class 2 in-ground (15–25 yrs), Class 1 above-ground (40+ yrs)
✔ Naturally rot- and termite-resistant — no chemicals needed
✔ Built for both in-ground and above-ground use
✔ Ready to paint or stain from day one

100% Chemical Free & End-of-Life Safe

White Cypress Pine is a naturally durable timber — rated Class 1 above ground and Class 2 in-ground — and already contains the natural resins needed to protect it from fungi, insects, and decay. That makes it a genuinely chemical-free choice: no hazardous treatments like CCA are used at all.

To help it last a lifetime, we recommend adding a non-hazardous protective paint — such as Bondall or Diggers Eco — to the buried section of your post. Even on the highest-rated in-ground timbers, this is the most effective way to get the longest possible lifespan.

Don’t Wait to Paint: Zero Weathering Required

Black painted cypress post and rail fence with two rails along a paddock with horses

Timbers like Merbau and Spotted Gum need a long seasoning period — exposed to sun and rain, they slowly release their natural oils and tannins. Paint them too early and the finish fails. Wait too long and the timber turns grey and splits.
The White Cypress Solution: White Cypress Pine is ready for the brush the moment it's delivered. It's naturally stable and needs zero weathering time.

✔ No Tannin Bleed: Won't stain your concrete or pavers.
✔ No Waiting: Complete the job in a single weekend.
✔ Superior Adhesion: Bonds securely for a finish that lasts years.
